About this condition

Vaginismus is an involuntary tightening of vaginal muscles that makes penetration during intercourse difficult or impossible and often painful. This condition can have physical or psychological causes including anxiety, past trauma, or medical conditions. Treatment through counseling, physical therapy, and gradual desensitization exercises is usually very effective.
