About this condition
Gangosa is a severe late-stage manifestation of yaws, a tropical infection that destroys bones and tissues of the nose and upper mouth. It causes disfiguring damage to the face, particularly the nasal area, if left untreated. Though rare now due to antibiotics, it still occurs in areas with limited healthcare access.
