About this condition
Echinococcosis is a parasitic disease caused by tapeworm larvae that form cysts in various organs, most commonly the liver and lungs. Humans get infected through contact with dogs or consuming food contaminated with tapeworm eggs from dog feces. The cysts grow slowly over years and can become quite large, causing symptoms depending on their size and location.
