About this condition
Gambiense trypanosomiasis, or African sleeping sickness, is a rare parasitic disease transmitted by tsetse flies found in sub-Saharan Africa. It causes fever, headaches, and progressive neurological symptoms including sleep disturbances. This condition is extremely rare in India and typically seen only in travelers returning from endemic African regions.
