About this condition

Balantidiasis is a rare intestinal infection caused by a parasite called Balantidium coli, often transmitted from pigs to humans. It causes diarrhea, stomach pain, and sometimes bloody stools, though many infected people have no symptoms. Treatment with specific antibiotics is needed to clear the infection.
