About this condition

Potter's syndrome is a severe congenital condition where the baby's kidneys fail to develop properly or are absent, leading to little or no amniotic fluid during pregnancy. This lack of fluid affects lung development and causes characteristic facial features and limb abnormalities. Unfortunately, this condition is usually fatal shortly after birth due to severe breathing problems and kidney failure.
