About this condition
Choanal atresia is a birth defect where the back opening of the nose is blocked by bone or tissue, making it difficult or impossible for a newborn to breathe through the nose. Babies with this condition may show bluish skin color, breathing problems, or choking during feeding. Immediate medical evaluation and often surgery is needed to open the airway.
